In a near-complete waste of Australian time and money, researchers at Griffith University surveyed students 18-29 about their motivations for using or not using marijuana. Users reported that they smoked up to "fit in with their friends, feel relaxed, forget their worries, and enjoy themselves." Non-users, meanwhile abstained because "work and study" remained powerful deterrents. Wow, Griffith U. — got any more brain-busters?
"Findings from this study provide a better understanding of the different motivations of users and non-users of cannabis," the authors note. "They also open up opportunities for targeting these differences when further developing initiatives in prevention and intervention in order to enhance the educational experience of young adults."
Seems to me the people they tried to target might be in-betweeners who are on the fence about pot. Instead, they interviewed a bunch of stoners and a bunch of nerdlingers, and they got stoner and nerdlinger answers.
That reminds me, I'm late for my informal study on youngsters smoking "that pot stuff." The Snoop Dogg/Cypress Hill concert starts in an hour.
