"Shocking" news: Tesla coils play Super Mario Bros. theme

OK, I'm as sorry at having to write that headline as you are having to read it, but can we all just get past that and celebrate the fact that these Tesla coils rock the heazy? Steve Ward and Jeff Larson showcased the best thing they'll ever do with their lives at the 2007 Lightning on the Lawn Teslathon in Baraboo, WI.

The music that you hear is coming from the sparks that these two identical high power solid state Tesla coils are generating. There are no speakers involved. The Tesla coils stand 7 feet tall and are each capable of putting out over 12 foot of spark. They are spaced about 18 feet apart. The coils are controlled over a fiber optic link by a single laptop computer. Each coil is assigned to a midi channel which it responds to by playing notes that are programed into the computer software.

If Mario had stopped unclogging toilets and taking mushrooms for one freaking second, he could've played this for Princess Daisy, and she never would've run off with that damn monkey in the first place.

I just re-watched "The Prestige" recently, which makes this video doubly mega-awesome.
